First reactions are wow! I knew this new adaptation was being filmed and would be out later this year but i simply had no expectation of what the actual film itself would look or be like and i’m pleased to say how thoroughly surprised at how good it looks. I should have guessed, Baz Lurhmann is the director of this film and he certainly knows how to dramatize a simple story. (i.e. Romeo and Juliet - which also starred DiCaprio). I’ve read the book and have seen a few other adaptations which honestly have failed to capture the flamboyant and epic romantic story between Gatsby and Daisy that the book was able to; but i am now confident that all of these thing will come to life. The colours, the music, the outfits and the extravagant look of New York depict how truly awesome and exciting the 1920s Jazz Age was. The cast looks great and i’m super excited to see Spider-Man -i mean- Tobey MGuire on the big screen again.
The only thing that really didn’t like was that this film is also going to be in 3D, which i see absolutely no point of, this is no action-y type film it’s more character -driven and something like 3D takes your attention away from that. People will obviously go and see it in 3D regardless of my opinion but it just seems like a easy way to make some extra cash. Click Here if you want to see The Great Gatsby trailer on iTunes.
But anyways i really liked the trailer! What did you think of it?

We’ve pretty much had a superhero movie gallore since the beginning of this century and i have to be honest, before going to see this film, i had the, seen it been there done that type attitude. But Oh my, oh my, oh my, Oh my. What a film what a film! The Avengers on all levels absolutely exceeded my expectations.
Starring Robert Downey Jr as the quote on quote “genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist” Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as super spy Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo who goes mean and green as The Hulk/ Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as the almighty Demi-God Thor, Chris Evans as super solider Captain America, Jeremy Renner as the highly skilled Hawkeye and Tom Hiddlestone as the sinister Loki. Samuel L Jackson, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders round up this all star cast providing us with perhaps the most highest anticipated superhero film of all time.
Director Joss Wheadon takes on the mother of all tasks in making this not just a good, but great superhero film, that must without fail blow all past films of this genre including the Marvel films itself out of the water. The Avengers begins with the slightly difficult task of assembling what essentially is the ‘A team’ in the hopes of teaming up to avenge the world from the cunning Loki and his army. Despite all being heroes, each individual comes with a bucket full of history and ultimately whilst the issue of figuring out who is the best superhero comes to mind, it’s interesting to watch their contrasting personalities clash during the film.
It’s so hard to pin-point who was the main character or who stood out most because they each had their shinning moments. Downey Jr is just as brilliantly arrogant, both Renner and Johansson prove to be just as super and are provided with a lot more back story - i liked Johansson’s character a lot more in The Avengers than i did whilst watching Iron Man 2; the addition of Renner’s character and their history with one another balanced out her character a lot more. Wheadon also uses the fact that Captain America, Thor and Tony Stark/Iron Man are all from different times to his advantage, providing opportunity some comic relief. The biggest surprise for me was certainly The Hulk, he really was the highlight of the film, he was at the centre of the two maybe three moments of the film where my jaw fell to the ground. Mark Ruffalo in the role of Bruce Banner was a match made in heaven, his character alone provides just as much interest as The Hulk himself. (I really hope that if Marvel plan on doing any future Hulk movies that he will return).
Hiddelstone demonstrates a villain at it’s best, he is determined, tenacious and adamant that the world should be under his rule. Wheadon intertwines the classic machiavellian/tyrant archetype with allusions to common knowledge of todays world and is able to present how utterly ridiculous the idea of one individual being capable of successfully ruling the world.
There are no words to describe the awesome-ness of each and every action sequence in this film, they definitely saved the best effects and writing for this Marvel installment. What this film has that typical popcorn movies (i.e. explosions, special effects, explosions and lack of character development) don’t have is the well developed and well written character archs, these characters are in no regards ‘thinly imagined’ and are of as much importance as the story’s plot and thrilling action sequences. The Avengers on a whole intertwines the best you can get of humour, drama, action and an awesome villain. The ending was probably my least favourite part of the film because i knew the ending was nearing and soon i’d be thrust back into the reality of my very average life.
Wheadon has defintiely set the bar sky high for any future directors who want to tackle the challenge of taking on a superhero movie. If you want to get a better understanding of the characters i suggest you watch all the Marvel movies, which provide more screen time and information. Thor is probably the one i’d watch as it’s sort of like a prequel to The Avengers.
If you haven’t seen The Avengers yet i suggest you go to the nearest cinema/movie theater ASAP! If you’re in the US unfortunately you’re going to have wait until May 4th but when it is out make sure you’ve got tickets!
The Avengers is definitely worthy of
‘The Avengers’ (May 4th) It’s going to be all action, awesome explosions, flying, and i hope some serious kick-ass moments. I’m a super-hero kind of girl, so i’m pretty much excited to see this. I know it’ll be awesome because Robert Downey Jr’s in it - he always has some great one-liners.
‘Men In Black 3’ (May 25th) It’s been 10 long years since MIB2 came out when i was at the ripe young age of 9. I’m a sucker for Will Smith movies, have’t seen him in the big screen for a while, i’m glad he’s back as Agent J, looks like a fun movie and i can’t wait to see it.
‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ (June 1st) A different take of the classic fairy tale Snow White, it looks really good, Kristen Stewart is in action-type role and i’m intriged to see if she does well in it. Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth look awesome as their characters and the action scenes look epic!
‘Prometheus’ (June 8th) This film is a prequel to the successful ‘Alien’ franchise. Honestly, i’m not the biggest alien movie fan, but a friend of mine recommended i at least check the trailer out, i did and it looks freakishly good, still not sure if i’ll see it in cinemas but i like films that have big budgets and awesome effects.
‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (July 3rd) Spider-Man is my favourite super-hero, yes i still think it’s too early for a re-boot, but the trailer looked great and i’m willing to give Andrew Garfield a chance; plus we finally get to find out what happened to Peter Parker’s parents.
‘Looper’ (Septmber 28th) Only just saw the trailer yesterday but it looks absolutely awesome, unlike all the other films in my list it’s actully an original screenplay, no sequels, reboots or anything of the kind. Jospeh Gordon Levitt looks great as his character and i’m just generally excited to watch something completely different.
‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2’ (November 16th) It’s the final Twilight movie and hey it’s my last chance to be a screaming fan-girl. I’m a fan of the books and i’m looking forward to seeing how the last film in the series turns out. Team Jacob all the way!
‘The Great Gatsby’ (December 25th) I’ve read the book, know the story, seen a couple of adaptations and to be honest i’m just excited to see how Baz Lurman directs this version, he has an eccentric directing style, so i think he’ll definitely bring a breath of fresh air to this very classic tale. Leo Dicaprio and Tobey Maguire star as Gatsby and Nick and i just know that they will be perfect.
As i can’t think of a 9th film that i think is worthy of my list, i’m going with a film that’s been out in cinemas for 3 weeks now, i’ve seen it 3 times already and highly recommend that you watch it if you still haven’t Yes it’s ‘The Hunger Games’ It’s seriously one of the best films i’ve seen in a while, and i’ll reveal only on this blog that i cried each time i saw it.
This looks like a fun and interesting film, i haven’t heard of ‘Ted’ before but i have heard of the people behind the making of this film, two words ‘Family Guy’ - i watch this show and it’s pretty funny so it’s pretty much what i’m expecting comedy wise, which i think is going to be this film’s strongest point.
Ted stars Seth Macfarlane as the potty-mouthed teddy bear, Mark Wahlberg who i haven’t really seen in a comedy before and Mila Kunis who has been in comedies before and also coincidentally stars in Family Guy. I haven’t seen a good comedy at the cinemas in a while and think i’ll definitely give this a go when it comes out. It’s awesome when a trailer alone succeeds in persuading me to go and watch a film. Kudos!
Ted (x) is set to be released this Summer! (Rated ‘R’/’15’)
